LRT Access Road
Case Study

Client
LRT Access Road

Sector
Municipal

Location
Toronto, ON

Before
Metrolinx wanted to integrate a maintenance access road with a grassed appearance, adjacent to a newly constructed light rail transit, ensuring that it would blend seamlessly with the surrounding park, while also preventing erosion and allowing storm water runoff infiltration.

Preparation
Metrolinx anticipated potential issues with rutting caused by maintenance vehicles. To address this, they utilized Ecoraster’s E50 due to its capacity to endure heavy vehicle loads and distribute tire point loads across the subbase. Additionally, the E50s permeability allows efficient storm water runoff infiltration, minimizing the need for site servicing structures.
Installation
The installation process was simplified by the E50’s modular design, making it straightforward to implement. The cells were filled with soil and seed. Ultimately, the entire feature resulted in grass-like appearance with robust permeable reinforcement.

After
Benefits of using Ecoraster’s E50 in this project include:
- Adaptable to cold climates: Ecoraster can withstand harsh environmental conditions (such as Canada’s harsh winters), including snow plowing, ensuring year-round functionality
- Resistant to UV exposure and aggressive solvents
- Modular in design simplifies installation and facilitates customization to suit project requirements
- Manufactured in Canada from recycled LDPE -Minimizing water runoff and promoting groundwater recharge
