ISSUE

All new development in CA is required to minimize impermeable surfacing in order to reduce urban runoff and stormwater pollution. More specifically, California  requires that stormwater runoff after construction match that of the property prior to any development. However,  traditional permeable surfacing and paver systems only receive partial credit for square footage installed because they clog without  performing costly, twice
yearly, maintenance. A developer is then faced with cost increases from
additional storm drainage systems to meet the now increased  stormwater runoff volumes.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Meet runoff reduction requirements for city.

2. Provide and install a permeable pavement system that will not clog.

3. Eliminate costly stormdrain systems.

Approach/Solution

California Filtration Specialists offers affordable 100% permeable pavement systems that will NOT clog. These include PaveDrain articulated concrete blocks and Ecoraster permeable surfacing systems. Both systems have flow rates in excess of 1,500in/hr. CFS submitted Ecoraster Bloxx to the city for achieving the project's runoff reduction requirements.

RESULTS

The city of Lake Forest accepted and approved the design of Ecoraster Bloxx for infiltration at the parking areas of the property. Additionally, this site was able
to reduce their underground storm drain infrastructure by capturing and infiltrating stormwater.
Two weeks later, the Bloxx system was delivered and installed according to the contractor's schedule. The installation was simple and did not require the use of any heavy equipment.

FOLLOW-UP

By having incorporated this LID product, the effects of urbanization on site hydrology, runoff flow rates, and pollutant loads are all minimized
