BEFORE
The municipality of King City was looking for eco-friendly paving materials to help transform their 14,000 square foot parking area into a functional, permeable, and green parking lot. Because Ecoraster is made from 100% recycled plastic and is manufactured in Ontario, they were able to take advantage of an amazing grant through the Ontario Tire Stewardship Program, which encourages the use of Ontario-made recycled products, such as permeable pavers.

Preparation
To prepare for the Ecoraster permeable hardscape installation, the area was excavated to a level subbase. A stormwater drainage layer of 6-8” of ¾” clearstone was then installed, leveled, and compacted.
Installation
Ecoraster Bloxx permeable paving stones with recycled rubber inserts were selected for this parking lot. The Bloxx were installed directly onto the clearstone base. Rubber inserts were then inserted into the paver grid system. The municipality took advantage of the colour options available to create a beautiful and functional parking lot design – including parking spaces, accessible parking spaces, and eco-friendly walkways. Using this method, no parking line painting was required.
AFTER
The King City Heritage and Cultural Centre has created a completely permeable, low-maintenance, environmentally-friendly parking lot. By using the Ecoraster system, they have also greatly reduced their salting requirements in the winter months.
