Location
Before
Kew Gardens is a large, community-favourite park in The Beaches area of Toronto. With 6.5 hectares, you can imagine the amount of traffic that goes through the popular park, which hosts baseball games, summer camps, concerts, picnics, and so much more.
It provides a welcoming green space close to downtown and easy access to some of Toronto’s most popular beaches.
The park needed an access lane and other internal roads. The project managers wanted to find a sustainable, eco-friendly product to align with the community’s desires.
Preparation
As we mentioned, the community is dedicated to keeping the neighbourhood clean and embraces green elements such as walkways, bike lanes, and green buildings. Given this perspective, it makes sense that the Kew Garden team wanted to choose Ecoraster as the preferred alternative to traditional road materials like asphalt when building a heavy-duty access lane.
Installation
The installation team placed Ecoraster E50 on top of a porous paver base. This system helps with municipal stormwater management by capturing rainfall and holding it below the surface until it can either percolate into the ground, evaporate or run off slowly.
After
Ecoraster has proven to be an excellent stormwater runoff control and management product, thriving in the wet environment that’s often found near the lake. The Ecoraster E50 pervious pavement system can support heavy maintenance vehicles, ensuring the ground is stabilized, level, and safe. Now, this park is fully-accessible for the continued use and happiness of the community.
